What Are Core Web Vitals and How to Improve Them: LCP, INP and CLS
29.09.2026 · By Webixtan
Core Web Vitals are three metrics Google uses to measure how fast, responsive and stable a page feels. They are not the only ranking factor, but they reflect real user experience.
The three metrics and their targets
- LCP (Largest Contentful Paint): time until the largest content is visible. Target: under 2.5 seconds.
- INP (Interaction to Next Paint): response time to a click or tap. Target: under 200 milliseconds.
- CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift): content shifting while the page loads. Target: under 0.1.
To improve LCP
Serve the hero image at the right size and in a modern format, do not lazy-load the above-the-fold image, reduce render-blocking CSS and JavaScript, and check server response time and cache headers.
For INP
Split large JavaScript bundles, review third-party analytics and ad code, and avoid heavy animation libraries.
For CLS
Set width and height on images, load web fonts in a controlled way and reserve space for dynamically inserted elements.
How to measure
Use PageSpeed Insights together with the Core Web Vitals report in Google Search Console. Test service and contact pages, not just the home page. If you want us to run this for you, see our SEO service; for the bigger picture, read what SEO is.
